Government agency building, Turku

The government agency building on the banks of the Aurajoki river in Turku serves as a centre of public administration and provides a wide range of facilities and services to hold meetings and other events.

Built in 1967 and designed by architects Risto-Veikko Luukkonen and Helmer Stenroos, the government agency building in Turku houses an auditorium, a dining room, sports facilities, large reception facilities and conference and meeting rooms. The building has around 12,500 m² of office space.

The Finnish Medicines Agency, Business Finland, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, Statistics Finland, the Finnish Food Authority, Senate Properties and Defence Properties Finland currently operate in the building.

In addition to these, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, the Regional State Administrative Agency and the National Land Survey of Finland provide customer service in the building.

How to reach us and parking

Access is through the main door on the Itsenäisyydenaukio side to reception on the 1st floor, where registration takes place. Open 7.45am-2.30pm on weekdays.

There are a limited number of free parking places in the back yard of the building and charged parking places at the end of the building.

Aitiopaikka restaurant

Aitiopaikka restaurant can be found on the 2nd floor of the government agency building and is open to everyone. FresCo Ravintolat Oy is responsible for meeting and restaurant services.

Modern conference centre in the heart of Turku

The government agency building can provide a wide range of facilities and services to hold meetings and other events:

  • meeting rooms in 12 different sizes (5-40 persons)
  • modern auditorium (200 persons), with 360⁰ visualisation
  • dining room (250 persons), with 360⁰ visualisation
  • the restaurant lobby is suitable for exhibitions and mini trade fairs
  • Former reception area of the provincial governor (10-40 persons). Suitable for team days and even VIP-level events. 360⁰ visualisation.

The conference rooms have a connection cable for one computer for a fixed network connection. All conference rooms and lobbies also have wireless indoor networks (Government agency building, -A, -X, -AX) operating with the same access codes available from the reception service.

How to reserve and cancel meeting rooms

Central government actors can reserve meeting rooms and catering and register their visitors for meetings directly in the e-service facility reservation system. Other reservations can be made either through reception or the restaurant. Reservation status can be checked in the reservation calendar view.

Cancellation of the auditorium without charge must be made during office hours 10 working days before the reservation. Reservations cancelled later than this will be charged in full.

Sports facilities

The sports hall is located on the upper basement level of the building.

The sports hall is 528 m2, 35.5 m long, 14.9 m wide, 6.9 m headroom. The hall is equipped with 2 crosswise courts with markings for basketball, volleyball, floorball, tennis and badminton. The hall is also suitable for seminars, exhibitions and other public events, for example.

The sport facilities have two changing rooms with shower rooms. There are 36 lockable lockers on the men’s side and 32 on the women’s side. Both changing rooms have two toilets and there is a shared sauna between the shower rooms. There is also a separate toilet, changing room and shower room for people with reduced mobility.

Access to the sports facilities

People working in the government agency building can access the sports facilities from the main door on the Itsenäisyydenaukio side to the reception on the 1st floor, from where they descend to the changing and shower rooms on the upper basement floor.

From outside of the building, access to the changing and shower rooms is via the stairwell on the 2nd floor of the D part of the building (port end or Provincial governor’s path end).

For persons with reduced mobility, access is from the main reception via an LE-sized lift to the upper basement level, from where a corridor leads to the changing and shower room area. The staircase in the corridor leading from the changing and shower rooms to the sports hall has a stair lift. This requires a separate pass for those outside the building.
